Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) is a NASCAR team that has evolved from other racing teams. Originally, Gillett Evernham Racing was a team made up of owners George Gillett and Ray Evernham. Going back to 2007 George Gillett purchased a portion of Evernham Motorsports to form Gillett Evernham Racing. This was a time period when many NASCAR teams were merging and combining operations. The team further evolved when in early 2009 they merged with Petty Enterprises. The team finally decided on the name of Richard Petty Motorsports. Today, NASCAR driving legend Richard Petty is co-owner of the team along with George Gillett. Richard Petty’s famous #43 car also made the transition to the new team. Ray Evernham who has roots in this new team will work as a consultant only for RPM.
RPM currently has 4 teams in the NASCAR Cup Series and races in Dodge cars.
