Carl Edwards
Born: 8-15-1979
Team: Roush Fenway Racing
First Win: 3-20-2005
One of the more interesting NASCAR careers has been that of driver Carl Edwards. The Missouri native’s father flirted with racing and Carl caught the bug as well. Initially working as a substitute school teacher for a time, Carl methodically worked his way up the NASCAR ladder to become one of the top Cup drivers. Starting with his full time Cup Series job in 2005, Carl has been the model of consistency in recent years.
Turns out Carl is distant cousins with NASCAR driver Ken Shrader, thus sometimes being called “Cousin Carl” by many. Edwards has many interests outside of racing as well. He has been on numerous sports magazine covers as well as some of the late night television shows. Carl also has his own record label. The outgoing personality of Carl has fit nicely with his primary sponsor Aflac Insurance. Aflac has inserted their popular duck into many commercials featuring Carl and his Ford Fusion race car.
Look for Cousin Carl to be one of the top tier Cup drivers for some time to come.
